Fly larvae or adult fly brain explants are imaged for GFP reporters marking neurons of interest. In some experiments, neurons will also express fluorescent reporters for newly synthesized proteins of interest. Our work involves obtaining large numbers of 3D images from both live and fixed specimens, using ever-changing sets of fluorophores. The speed and flexibility of the Axiovert 200 coupled with a LSM 5 Live system is a great benefit to our work. | | A projection series rotating around the Y axis constructed from a confocal z-stack of a fly larvae mouth revealing EGFP-labeled neurons. |
