| Award - Carl Zeiss Lecture 2004 |
| |

| | Prof. Dr. Roger Tsien is the winner of the Carl Zeiss Lecture, the highest scientific prize awarded by the German Society for Cell Biology (DGZ) and donated by Carl Zeiss. On its annual meeting in Berlin, the DGZ conferred the prize on the notable scientist at the University of La Jolla (California).
Over more than 20 years, Tsien has made substantial contributions to the development of various fluorescence methods. |
| |

| | One of his greatest achievements is the ascertainment of cellular structures and their functions with "green fluorescent protein" (GFP), one of the most important tools for visualizing individual molecules in a cell.
The Carl Zeiss Lecture is an award given annually by the DGZ for internationally outstanding results in cell biology achieved by means of light or electron microscopy. |
